Hi, I'm Nate.
I'm a biostatistician and data systems engineer.
I like difficult questions and data that refuses to be wrangled. I started in infectious diseases, but my work has taken me through pharmaceutical manufacturing, clinical research, Medicaid quality measurement, public-health surveillance, and the systems that connect them.
I like working where stats, programming, and public health overlap, especially when the problem doesn't fit neatly into just one of those boxes. There's something very satisfying about taking a messy question, figuring out what the data can really tell us, and building the machinery that makes that answer hold up.
Training, and what I work in.
- Education
- MS, Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy. MPH candidate, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, expected very soon.
- Experience
- Over a decade building and reviewing health data systems in regulated environments. Pharma manufacturing instrument data and reporting, Medicaid quality measurement, Phase II and III clinical research, NDA submissions, SDTM and ADaM, TLFs, CDISC conformance, and production dashboards and data systems.
- Statistics
- R and SAS, including validating a legacy implementation against its modern rebuild, with Python where a method has to run inside an application. Age standardisation, exact and asymptotic intervals, shrinkage and small-area estimation, aberration detection, correction for reporting delay.
- Systems
- Scheduled ingestion with validation gates and an audit trail on every load. Backups that get restored on a schedule, so we both know they work.
- Spatial
- Spatial statistics, geostatistics, and small-area methods when geography is part of the question, not just the backdrop. PostGIS for spatial analysis, Leaflet for the maps you'll see, with suppression handled where the number is produced.
- Subject matter
- Public-health surveillance, clinical and administrative data, quality measurement, population health, and the analytical problems that sit between them.
- Where
- Salt Lake City, Utah. Available nationwide.
