   file means the four Montserrat weights cost one download rather than four.

   The ranges are wider than the Google Fonts link they replace, and that is
   the point. Measuring every element on every page found 66 places asking for
   a weight the site had never downloaded: a <b> inside a code block wants
   JetBrains Mono 700, a numeric table header wants 600, and .va-anchor wants
   Montserrat 400. Chrome was faking all of them with synthetic bold. Each
   range below covers the weights the pages actually compute, so nothing is
   synthesised now.

   Only the latin and latin-ext subsets are here; a page carrying Cyrillic,
   Greek or Vietnamese falls back to the system stack for those characters,
   which the unicode-range descriptors below arrange.

   font-display: swap is deliberate. Text is readable in the fallback stack
   from the first paint and reflows when the file lands, which is the right
   trade on a site that is mostly words.

   Licences: all three are under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The full text
   of each is in /assets/fonts/LICENSE-*.txt. To refresh a family, request the
   same variable range from fonts.googleapis.com with a current browser
   user-agent, keep the latin and latin-ext faces, and replace both the file
